Project Description

Evaluation of possible earthquake damages on 8 dams, supplying 770 m³ potable water per year for Istanbul city, and identification of necessary measures to restrain the damages to secure water supply to the city. Preparation of flood hazard and risk maps on downstream
of four dams with dense residential area, is also in the scope of the study.

Following dams are considered in the project:

-Ömerli Dam - type: earthfill embankment, H from foundation: 62 m
-Darlık Dam - type: rockfill with clay core, H from foundation: 52 m
-Pabuçdere Dam - type: rockfill with clay core, H from foundation: 28 m
-Kazandere Dam - type: rockfill with clay core, H from foundation: 28 m
-Alibeyköy Dam - type: earthfill embankment, H from foundation: 28 m
-Büyükçekmece Dam - type: earthfill embankment, H from foundation: 10 m
-Terkos Dam - type: concrete gravity

  • Topographical works to identify existing situation of dams to determine any settlement etc.
  • Geophysical and geotechnical surveys to identify soil parameters
    2-D and 3-D dynamic analysis
  • Dam safety assessment
  • Dam break analysis/dam safety management plan and preparation of flood hazard and risk maps
  • Identification of rehabilitation measures
