The objective of the Yeşilçay Project is to supply 145 million m³ of potable water per year to the city of Istanbul and its surrounding area (the service area) by diverting and treating water from the Sungurlu and Göksu rivers in order to ensure sustained economic growth and to maintain the hygiene of approximately 7.5 million inhabitants. The project is consisted of intake weirs (Sungurlu & İsaköy), open canals (8 m³/s-4 km, 13 m³/s-1.25 km), pumping stations (Kurfallı-3000 kW & Darlık-2500 kW), pipelines (Ø3000 mm coated steel pipes & prestressed concrete cylinder pipe), storage tanks (10000 m³), tunnels (Ø 4000), aqueducts (Ø 3000 steel pipe and bridge) and treatment plant (Emirli, 500,000 m³/day) as well as 154 kV transmission line, 154/11 kV substation and SCADA system.
